April was the official month to kick off the start to the 2023 Indonesian surf season but Rote was put on delay with a late low passing by to the south. As the low passed by Rote it intensified to form topical cyclone Ilsa that was to cause havoc along the northern Western Australia coast. After this settled down guest at Lualemba Bungalows were able to enjoy head high waves and gentle off shore winds for a couple weeks at Boa and Tland. Conditions for waves in April are excellent.
If you want to score Boa at it’s best April is probably the best month. Slight offshore winds pretty all day. Tland can be a lot of fun too as well as all the other breaks around if they are getting enough swell. There was a part of April this year when a low came pretty close to the bottom of Rote causing lots of rain and the surf conditions weren’t the best. Over all everyone managed to have a lot of fun.
Dana Island is a great Adventure when the surf is flat.
Te Aila the yacht is a great way to get out and about to the outer islands of Rote. With it’s twin motors it can get you quickly or relax and enjoy the sailing experience. Dana island is our most popular destination with a lot to explore or just hang out on the beautiful beach.

This will save you queuing up in long lines at the immigration section at the airport. You can get an extra 30 days online if you wish to stay more than 30 days.

Flying Domestic to Kupang.
The best way to get to Kupang airport is with Lion Air. Their website isn’t the best way to book flights so our preferred online travel booking site is nusatrip.com that give the best deals and payment with overseas credit cards aren’t an issue. When checking in Lion Air they will charge you RP 200,000 per surfboard. At present flight from Bali arrives in Kupang at 1.50 pm.
Getting to Rote
When you arrive at Kupang Airport we can organize a driver to take you to the ferry terminal to catch the 3.30 pm transport ferry that afternoon to rote or you can stay the night in Kupang and catch the fast ferry 9.00.am. Either way we ca sort out a driver to the ferry terminals. When in Rote we can have a driver pick up from either ferry terminals to take you to Lualemba Bungalows in Nemberala.
