The Bungalows

Our bungalows are cool, with lovely gardens providing shade and privacy. In the last 12 months every bungalow has been freshly painted inside and out. We are always improving furniture and the bungalows providing the best comforts for our guests. Every bungalow has a great verandah area plus other chill out places around the gardens to relax.

The Gardens and it’s Habitats

We boast the loveliest cool gardens, so much that guests cannot believe they are on Rote Island. The grass is always greener on the Lualemba Bungalows side of the fence that our road base is beautiful green grass. Such a pleasure to walk on from your bungalow to the restaurant or to the pool. When the little birds sing at the first crack of dawn for those who want to get an early surf or just lay back in bed and know it’s a start to another day in paradise. What is there to write a picture says a thousand words and real life says everything.

The Restaurant and Bar

Restaurant and bar with a difference. Our aim is for you to feel comfortable and relax, meet new friends or hang out with your mates, play some table tennis or check out the latest sporting event maybe a movie. Guests that stay get 3 meals a day fit for a king or queen that surfers love to keep their energy levels up. Breakfast comes with a menu choice, tea or coffee and a fruit salad. Lunch is a menu choice of Indonesian or western style food. Dinner is the chefs choice with a seafood, beef or chicken dish and selection of fantastic vegetable dishes. We don’t make dinner with a portion of this and that, filling the empty spaces with a pretty sauce and maybe a pretty flower that you cannot eat. We give you an empty plate and you make it as pretty much as you want. If you have a diet out of the ordinary tell the staff and they will look after you so you don’t miss out. Our bar has a selection of cold beers, spirits, soft drinks, milkshakes, smoothies and fresh blended juice so don’t be afraid to ask.

The Natural Pool

Lualemba Bungalows with it’s eco environmentally friendly permaculture and beautiful flowering gardens surrounding it’s traditional Rote style bungalows and restaurant / bar we couldn’t have a pool full of toxic chemicals for you to swim in. Besides that with the amazing self-sufficient water supply that not only provides our own drinking water through our high tech filter system we are able to pump water a couple times a day into the pool while the pool water is dispersed on to the gardens and grass areas. A natural non chemical pool is labor intensive and our staff are working on it every day to make your dip in the pool refreshing and as natural as jumping into a beautiful watering hole.

The Waves

Eighty per cent of Lualemba Bungalow guests come to stay and surf the waves that Rote Island and Indonesia as a whole is famous for. Besialu Reef ( Tland ) is a left break surf able from 2 ft ( knee high ) and everything in between 15 ft (4-5 times toe to head high ) and on it’s day with rides up to 200 meters on a single wave. There are 4 distinct take off areas along the reef plus wave pick off points so when over 4ft and a consistent swell it can handle a decent number of surfers. Across the beach harbor is The Bombie and inside the reef is Squealers for the youngsters and not so confident. A short distance south of Besialu reef is The Spit that is excellent on a longboard or sup. There are a couple of awesome rights Boa that is a short Motorcycle ride and Saku Namors which is a 20 minute boat ride. Oeseli is a bit of trek from Nemberala but can be quite worth it and some of the Rote outer island breaks can be what Indo surf dreams are made of with just a few guys and excellent waves on it’s day. Mind you all these breaks are good but depending on swell and wind conditions they differ from each other on it’s day.

The Beauty and Adventure

When the waves are not up to your standard or just surfed out or your just here to check out what Rote Island has to offer. We can organize road trips or motorcycle hire to check out some of the island beauty. We have Te Aila to take you on day trips to outer islands to go snorkeling, surfing or wandering pink sand beaches and rugged wave torn cliffs.

The Catch

Most guests haven’t experienced a large fish on the end of a line or the fight of a Giant Trivially. Not always guarantee a fish but an outing on the boat for a few hours is a treat in itself.

So just looking on the faces of our guests in this months newsletter anybody can see Lualemba Bungalows is more than just a place to stay. Our lifestyle here is enjoying what Rote Island has and sharing that lifestyle with our guests gives us great pleasure to see you enjoying your holiday time that is probably well deserved and that’s why our friends and guests keep coming back year after year.
