October 2023 - Lualemba Bungalow Resort - Nemberala Rote Island - Newsletter

Hi Guys and Gals.

October 2023 weather was very nice with slight offshore winds and some decent size swells still hanging around until mid October. Even though the swell had dropped later in the month conditions were still good with waist to head high waves. Again guests took the trek to Oefamba waterfalls and to Tanjung Puleh which is the most southern landmark in Indonesia. Te Aila sail out to Ndoa Island where lots of small fish hanged around the yacht at anchorage and guests ventured onto the island to check out a old Dutch cannon from back in the day. Enjoy October newsletter and consider coming to stay at Lualemba Bungalow Resort during the shoulder season.

Te Aila sails to Ndao Island.

October is a beautiful time of year to sail to Ndao Island with its pristine beaches. When at anchor Te Aila was surrounded by thousands of bait fish making the water look red. Even though it was a little hot in the middle of the day we took a walk around the village and checked out a Dutch cannon just laying in a person’s front yard. The winds favored Te Aila back to Nemberala and Lualemba guests enjoyed a great day out.

Nemberala Cup

Everyday for the month of October the Nemberala Cup was held with villages from the Delha area of Rote Island. The competition was intense and the spectators were in large numbers. But unfortunately there was no winning team this year with the cup winner blank for 2023. The soccer got so intense that tempers flared and a dispute between two teams end with coconuts and rocks been thrown across the field and one person was badly injured by a friendly coconut. So the polisi in Baa and higher government ceased further play and the cup went back into the cupboard with no celebration of a winner.

Fun days out at Tland.

October for surf on Rote Island start with as good as it gets like it had for 2nd half of 2023 season. Well over head swells hit for the first 2 weeks and the trade winds had eased off considerably making conditions perfect. The swell had eased off during the last to weeks but there were still fun waves with perfect conditions. Crowds of surfers were leaving Rote in droves during May making the line up enjoyable with hassle free waves. Boa, Sukies and even a couple of days at Do’o Island had good waves and conditions.
